Carl Edwards Appears in Super Bowl Commercial
As most of you probably saw last night, NASCAR superstar Carl Edwards appeared in a Super Bowl commercial last night on behalf of Claritin Clear … and, I was somewhat disappointed. In a Super Bowl that featured a lackluster lineup of commercials, in my opinion, Claritin just sorta followed suit. I mean, I understand that every single commercial doesn’t have to be a knockdown knee s lapper, but isn’t the point for them to be somewhat memorable? Guys, this commercial was no better than the Claritin commercials that featured that old, funny sounding guy (can’t remember his name) in the classroom talking about “for dry eyes there’s this, and for red eyes there’s that.”
I don’t know, I guess I just thought it would have been kind of cool to see a commercial where maybe one of the other drivers on the track wrecks because of his allergies, but Edwards wins the race because he used Claritin. Maybe something humorous could have been played into the commercial … just something.
I was fairly surprised, though, that Edwards was the only NASCAR driver to have a Super Bowl commercial. Mountain Dew Amp was advertising, so you’d have thought that we might get to see Dale Jr. Budweiser always advertises, so this would have been a good time to get Kasey Kahne’s face out there. I was surprised not to see anything from Miller Lite, which could have been a que for Kurt Busch. No UPS with Dale Jarrett and/or David Reutimann … no NAPA with Michael Waltrip. Sheesh, you’d think that these guys were all saving there bucks for some other big event a couple weeks from now.

The “old guy” you’re talking about is Ben Stein and he doesn’t advertise Claritin. He advertises eye drops.

Ben Stein … that’s the name I was looking for … couldn’t think of it this morning. But, it doesn’t really matter what he was advertising for, the point was that the Claritin commercial had about the same effect.
It’s also worth mentioning that Carl was also featured in one of the Under Armour commercials. I didn’t care much for those commercials, either, but at least they put some effort into it.

Saw the commercial too. It reminded me of those prescription commercials we see today. I thought the ending was going to be funny with a voice saying, “Side effects may include: consecutive victories, painless burnouts, etc etc.” or something like that. It’s all good.
Your my boy Carl!

I didn’t even think about that. You’re right, that woulda made a great ending for the commercial!
