National Guard Will Continue It’s Nationwide Series Involvement
For 2008 Landon Cassill and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will race 21 of their races in the No. 5 National Guard car. The team will be a joint venture by fielding with Jr. Motorsports in partnership with Henderick Motorsports.
Cassill is scheduled to drive 19 of the events while Earnhardt Jr. will steer the wheel for for the Daytona season opener February 16th. He is also slated to drive the season finale at Homestead November 15th for now.
This isn’t the first time the National Guard has shown support in the Nationwide Series. In 2007, they were represented in 25 Nationwide Series races which included all of Cassill’s 6 starts. The National Guard will also be a co-sponsor for Earnhardt Jr’s. Sprint Cup car.
Could Earhardt’s Jr’s switch to Henderick Motorsports be the smartest move of his career? I think so. I also think that the 2008 season will reflect that with his finest season since driving at the Cup level. With all of the new changes going on in Earnhardt’s life, I am sure he stays very involved with what is circulating around him. With the excitement that all of this can spur, I expect we will see him fire out of the gates in 2008 with just as much gas and adrenaline in his veins as what is packed into his No. 88 fuel cell.

I think by far it’s a good move for him he is just going to have to get use to being the third team driver instead of the first
